Study on the History, philosophy
of science – currently referred
as Science and Technology
Studies in the academic
mainstream – is a relatively new
endeavour on the Malaysian
academic scene. In this book, a
group of academic mostly based
at the Department of Science and
Technology Studies, University
of Malaya, look at various
aspects of Science and
Technology Studies, largely with
reference to the Malaysian
context although not exclusively
so.
The book is in honour of Royal
Ungku Aziz, the former
vice-Chancellor of the
University of Malaya, who was
responsible for the
establishment of the History and
Philosophy of Science programme
at the University of Malaya way
back to 1975. The issues
examines are those concerning
the relationship between science
and religion, science and
ethics, science and culture, the
politics and economics of
science and technology, the
history and philosophy of
science, and the question of
science, technology and values.
The collection of essays are
interdisciplinary in nature,
timely, and serve as a valuable
contribution to an understanding
of some of the major issues
concerning science and
technology in the Malaysian
context. Policy analysts,
educationists, scholars on
science and technology studies,
and those interested in issues
concerning science and
technology in Malaysia would do
themselves a favour by having a
copy of this book on their
bookshelves.
