change and development, with particular
focus
on the industrial sector, from the
colonial into the post-independence
eras;·
To document the evolution of
social-economic transformation in
Malaysia, from a largely subsistence
agricultural economy to an extractive
and primary commodity commercial export
economy, transiting into an industrial
and manufacturing entity, the phase
before the current k-economy; and·
To contribute to a more complete and
comprehensive picture of the processes
of change in past eras for an
understanding of how we arrive at the
present, a fully fledged industrial
nation.

To compile information on S&T in the
Islamic world from the Middle Ages to
the present. 3 major periods will be
covered: (i) medieval; (ii) colonial and
(iii) Post-Colonial/Contemporary;
·
To identify major issues concerning
science and technology in the
contemporary Islamic world, and attempts
towards resolving them. For example
issues on the environment, bioethics,
and the discourse on Islamic science;
·
To assess the status of S&T in the
Islamic world, and to make international
comparisons; and
·
To provide an analysis of problems
encountered by Muslim countries in their
modernization attempts, through the
medium of science and technology.

assess their awareness on animal ethics
by allowing the respondent to reflect
upon real-life case examples; and

study on the need to establish clear
guidelines on procedures involving
animal care and use in research by
presenting a balanced position paper on
the complex scientific and moral issues
raised by animal experimentation.
